What our Community CashBack Card designer said about her design inspiration:
“What is a community and what does it mean to belong to one?
Questions I pondered whilst designing Technocash’s Community CashBack Card. The design needed to be dynamic - full of movement, upward motion and life. Something organic, yet strong… something human.
When I think about community, I think about spirit. People sacrificing for others. People looking out for their neighbours. Locals helping locals. This is a passionate feeling, which demanded a passionate colour scheme to match. Intense red and pure blue were the perfect choice. These basic, emotive hues contrast strikingly, heightening the senses.
People often wonder about what the swooping red line is. I like to think of it as a fibrous yarn. A yarn is in many ways like a community – stronger the more fibres (or individuals) it has in it. The more interwoven a yarn’s fibres are the firmer and greater it is. Communities are filled with individuals who are linked in so many ways. I believe that a community cannot flourish without everyone looking out for each other. Communities need to tighten their bonds as a group to create a thriving environment for everyone.
Communities are site specific. They each have their own character and personality. Therefore my design had to display flexibility. Although the Community CashBack Card has a universal appeal, its benefits and features depend greatly on what each community values.
There is definitely an elemental feeling evoked in the card design. Blue is the universal favourite colour. It relates to both the sky and to water – and these elements are collectively important to everyone. Blue is a colour of depth and stability. Red is also a fundamental hue. Blood is red, and can represent the essence of life. The red soil of the Australian desert is another iconic visual link we can make. Alternatively, as red is a bright, loud colour it could just as easily be associated with any major city. Red is a colour of passion, strength and energy.
Communities should be places of stability, yet constant growth. It takes energy, foresight and vision to build a safe haven for people of varied age, gender, racial and religious backgrounds. The Community CashBack Card is my way of celebrating this great community tradition whilst boldly reaching for the future.“
